22 Feb Moonlight Media Event Rewind – Prop64 Passed, NOW WHAT?
The Moonlight Media Event, Prop64 Passed, NOW WHAT?, was a cannabis educational series with installments in the counties of San Diego, Orange, and Los Angeles meant to inform the industry growth in the Southern California region. Given the recent implementation of some form of legal cannabis in California, we knew we had to participate and volunteer to help spread the knowledge.
The event took place February 2, 2017 in a creative vegan restaurant EVE Encinitas in North San Diego County, recently renovated and expanded for special events. A number of industry vendors were in attendance, ranging from cannabis infused coffee drinks and cultural accessories, cannabis legal counselors, accountants, environmental managers, media companies and consultants, analytical laboratories, and city policy makers.
Overall it looked like all guests and industry hopefuls in attendance got in a full night of networking, learning, and making new friends in the industry, while exhibiting to the public some of what goes on behind the scenes in this growing space.
Here’s what we learned:
- While San Diego, CA is definitely the Green Coast of cannabis in the southwestern region, each city has its own regulations and many of the smaller cities also have claims to fame – like San Diego, home of luxury skincare and branding powerhouse Cannaeo™.
- The retail market in California is fragmented in terms of how businesses can get their product and marketing executed. For example, a dispensary or medical cannabis producer will have issues on securing their funds for safety measures. Regardless of the cannabis recreational adult use being lawfully accepted on January 1, 2018, the federal guidelines still forbids business owners in the industry to open a bank account.
- While smoking cannabis in public is not permitted under California’s legalization policy, the rules on private events tend to be a “grey area,” leaving patients and cannabis enthusiasts up in the air as to how best to socialize.

Stay tuned cannabis entrepreneurs! There are more events coming up and make sure to stay updated. We are less than 11 months away from making history in America’s footprint to marijuana prohibition. If there’s any good time to prepare and learn where you fit in this new budding industry, now until January 1, 2018 is the perfect window of opportunity.
In closing, if you know of any event where you would like us to support and volunteer for, please let us know and we would be more than glad to write a story about them. We’ve helped many small-to-medium companies and organizations host, arrange, and drive foot traffic to their trade show events and expos. Call for more information at (858) 952-6330.
